Vegan Desserts at Crumbville, TX

The population of vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians, and other people who think meat is the devil is on the rise. Everywhere you turn, there’s a new vegan establishment that caters to this rapidly growing consumer base. Lord, I don’t see how they do it, because I know I’d be hungry; I gotta have my meat and my sugar. LOL. I always wonder what these special individuals eat that are meat substitutes and how they enjoy their foods, which don’t include a lot of sugars, dairy products, and other ingredients that make “regular” food so good. LOL. Nonetheless, they eat hot dogs, burgers, etc., but everything is made with all grains, beans, legumes, vegetables, fruits, and the nearly infinite number of foods made by combining them. They even eat desserts. Yes, DESSERTS! From cookies to ice cream, non-meat eaters enjoy such snacks. In Houston, Crumbville, TX offers satisfying vegan and non-vegan treats for meat eaters and non-meat eaters alike. Let me take you on a journey to this savory establishment in Third Ward…

LOCATION

Third Ward is the best foodie destination in Houston, to me. From Creole to soul food to Mediterranean to Jamaican, this Houston neighborhood is no slouch in the local food scene. In fact, in the mid-2010’s, Crumbville, TX had added more diversity to the Tre’s food résumé. The establishment is located in a white historic building across from Emancipation Park at the corner of Elgin and Emancipation Streets. Owned and operated by the ultimate “hugger” herself, Ms. Ella, this extraordinary place is becoming another foodie beacon within the Greater Houston area.

Ms. Ella, an extremely friendly and energetic full-time baker from nearby Galveston, has the space organized to the T; the treats are organized on shelves and in baskets. Her clean and spacious bakery specializes in cupcakes, cookies, and brownies. For inquiring minds, she genuinely takes her time to explain what ingredients are inside of her treats. For the meat eaters, like me, who don’t understand how cookies and other desserts can be vegan or how such a thing would taste, there are samples of each available cookie on the front counter. Interesting, right?

FOOD

The treats are banging!

Let me start off with the cookies. Ms Ella is the cookie connoisseur; several of her cookies are vegan. Again, the term “vegan” scares the crap out of me. See, in my mind, I’m thinking that there’s a taste difference like the difference between Pepsi and Diet Pepsi. LOL. However, she explained that vegan cookies and other vegan desserts aren’t composed of any animal byproducts and that they still have the same great taste as “normal” cookies. Oh yea, she was right! I sampled every cookie in the sample jars on the front counter. Peanut Butter Snicker Crunch. Peachy-cob-a-licious. Lemon Blueberry. Cookie Minaj (strawberry oatmeal and white chocolate chips). Cole World (lemon dough, white chocolate, and mint). Chocolate Chip. All cookies were great, but my favorite one was and is the Chocolate Chip cookie; this is my go-to cookie. It tastes just like a “regular” chocolate chip cookie but better; it’s very moist and soft. It seems so buttery, but it’s not, obviously. My mind wanted to tell me that it was nasty because it’s vegan, but my taste buds didn’t allow that to happen. The taste is indescribable.

Furthermore, I’m not a brownie person, so I went towards the cupcake section. For my paranoid meat lovers, a lot of the cupcakes are not vegan. Did I mention that Ms. Ella is unique? Her cupcakes, or stuffedcups, are not your average cupcakes; each stuffedcup has a cookie baked into it at the bottom. Red Velvet Stuffedcup with a white chocolate chip cookie. Blueberry Stuffedcup with a chocolate chip cookie. Vanilla Stuffedcup with a chocolate chip pecan cookie and so much more! During my first visit, I chose the Vanilla Stuffedcup with a chocolate chip pecan cookie, which was not vegan. It was really tasty and moist. The cookie at the bottom was really good too; it didn’t take away from the stuffedcup at all. There were chocolate chips and pecans sprinkled atop. My favorite part of the stuffedcup was the vanilla icing. I don’t know what she puts into that icing, but whatever it is should continue to be apart of the stuffedcup’s eating experience.

Last but not least, a complimentary almond milk shot can be accommodated with each treat. Sounds delicious right? This woman always has something up her sleeves!

CONCLUSION

Crumbville, TX is special to me. I really and truly enjoy Ms. Ella’s hugs and conversations, which always have me coming back weekly, aside from her tasty treats. She’s such a great community resident who cares for Third Ward and the greater area. She’s sincerely like a fun and smart auntie who wants to see people win and succeed!

Additionally, I love everything about this place. The location. The prices. The desserts. The vibes. The space. From a price perspective, all cookies and stuffedcups are $8.00. On Sundays, she hosts Happy Hour, where all desserts are half priced. Crumbville, TX does not break the bank, especially on Sundays.

Lastly, Ms. Ella continues to create new flavors in her commercial kitchen; her new sweet potato pie cookie is the bomb! Not only does she bake small treats, she bakes cakes for special occasions. She’s literally the G.O.A.T.! Because of her greatness, I have to give Crumbville, TX 5 stars (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️); it’s my favorite dessert spot in Houston!
