Kway’s New Cajun/Creole Sensation

Houston loves Cajun and Creole foods; there’s literally a Cajun and/or a Creole restaurant on every corner in this city. Not only are the respective types of restaurants plentiful, daiquiri shops (DShops) are in huge numbers here as well. Of course, this is all obvious, since Houston is nicknamed “West Louisiana” by many Louisiana natives and residents. Interestingly, social media sensation and comedian, Kway (“blameitonkway” on Instagram), has successfully added his Louisiana-style project to the mix. Popularly known as “TiTi,” his comedic fictional female character, Kway opened up Krab Queenz, a restaurant with Baton Rouge origins, in the Westchase district of Houston. He definitely made a smart choice with opening up a Houston location. Let me take you on a journey to this new popular spot on the Westside…

LOCATION

Almost anything that’s located on Westheimer Road is sure to be a great experience and to be some of the best that Houston has to offer; Krab Queenz is no different. Krab Queenz is located off Westheimer Road past the Beltway across the street from the Target shopping plaza. It’s surrounded by several minority owned restaurants and businesses that add to the diversity that makes West Houston popular. Oh yea, this restaurant’s location couldn’t have been better!

Krab Queenz is definitely becoming a popular foodie destination, since Kway, who has over 3 million followers on Instagram, has been heavily advertising the restaurant on his platform and has been at the restaurant greeting and serving fans and patrons alike. Due to the overflow of patrons, there is a security guard to help run the business smoothly, along with great customer service. As a result, during my visit with Shan, we were seated promptly and were served by Zy; she was very attentive and thorough with her explaining the items on the menu. Because of this, I already knew that we were going to have a successful dining experience.

FOOD

The food is just as good as the service.

Shan loves fried fish and was craving some, so Zy, our waitress, recommended the “Fish and Chips” meal for her. This meal includes two hand battered Louisiana fried catfish fillets, French fries, a toasted garlic bread, and a small container of Cajun tarter sauce. Y’all know I had to try a piece of everything she ordered. LOL. The catfish was the bomb; it was seasoned with Cajun spices and was really fresh and crispy, just how Shan likes her fish prepared. I’m a French fry person, and when I tasted the golden fries, which weren’t the typical “Cajun” fries, I knew that my food was going to be good; they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The garlic bread was slightly toasted, had the right amount of garlic seasoning, and was buttery. Shan’s meal definitely had me ready for my food to arrive.

As y’all may know by now, I am a huge fan of seafood, especially shrimp; however, I didn’t want the usual fried shrimp basket. During this time, I‘d opted for the “Seafood and Waffles” combo, which comes with a meat choice of fried shrimp, fried fish, or fried lobster on top of a large waffle. Obviously, I’d chosen fried shrimp. Let me start off by saying that the fried shrimp was huge and was plentiful; the meal comes with 8 shrimp. The shrimp wasn’t fried too hard and was seasoned with similar Cajun spices like the fish was, and they tasted really well with the Cajun tarter sauce. Oh boy, I was on cloud 9 with the shrimp. Now, the waffle, which was accompanied by syrup, was a pleasant surprise; it wasn’t the typical breakfast waffle that’s kind of bland. The waffle, which is made from an in-house special recipe, was flurry and tasted close to a cinnamon roll. I thoroughly enjoyed eating the shrimp and waffle together; the Cajun seasoning and the crunchiness of the shrimp eaten together with the sweet and dessert-like waffle was a true foodie’s dream.

Next, I was feeling greedy, so Zy recommended the boudin balls, which she deemed were the best ones she has had. I ordered 5 boudin balls, and I must say that Zy wasn’t being biased; y’all, the boudin balls were absolutely amazing. They were really soft and were a lot softer than the boudin balls I’ve had. They were with drizzled Cajun tarter sauce and were sprinkled with garnish.

Last but not least, Krab Queenz has great daiquiris! Shan did’t get one; however, she had the “i10 Punch,” which is peach, strawberry, and pink lemonade mixed together. The punch was pretty good and sweet. On the other hand, y’all know I got a daiquiri. LOL. I got the “MVP,” which is a suicide that includes “420,” “Aderal,” “Novakane,” “Bi Polar,” “Forbidden Fruit,” and “Snow Candy.” All of the respective flavors are in-house flavors that include strong liquor. Yes, I did have a buzz, as a result of consumption, but the concoction was one of the best daiquiris I’ve had in Houston!

CONCLUSION

Krab Queenz has it going on. It’s become one of my favorite restaurants in Houston; it has that fun atmosphere and young crowd that a lot of black-owned restaurants in Houston have. The customer service was great, the portions of food were very decent, the drinks were good, and the prices were pretty standard for a soon-to-be popular seafood restaurant. Shan’s “Fish and Chips” meal was $13.99, and her “i10 Punch” was $3.25. My “Seafood and Waffles” (fried shrimp) meal was $15.99, the boudin balls (5) were $6.99, and “MVP” (16 oz) was $7.25. With all the listed pros, I’m for sure giving Krab Queenz 5 stars (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)! I will patronize this place again fairly soon!
