Sunday Funday at The Address

Black Houstonians, do you remember the hot and popping Sunday Funday spot, “Social Junkie?” The gone but not forgotten Washington Avenue sports bar has been reincarnated into The Address, Third Ward’s hottest destination for day parties, nightlife, and BRUNCH! Let me take you on a journey to this popular venue in “The Tre”...

LOCATION

Texas Southern University. Beyoncé. History. Black Culture. Emancipation Park. Project Row Houses. Third Ward is one of Houston's wards that's the epicenter of the city's African American population. Besides several Black owned establishments that make it a great center for African Americans, “The Tre” is home to many of Houston's black nightclubs and bars. From Grooves to Live Oak to D Bar to Spivey's, Third Ward stays LIT, but all roads lead to The AddressThe Address is massive! It’s a 3 in 1 type of venue; you can meet new people and enjoy Houston’s warm weather on the huge patio, you can have a few drinks and watch the game in the bar area, and you can turn up in the club section at night. Oh yea, did I mention the waitresses? The waitresses are beautiful! The DJs and hype men have the whole place jammin', too! There’s something to do there every day of the week, but you don’t want to miss “Brunch and Beats” on a Sunday!

FOOD

I'm big on birthday celebrations, so I'd gone out to my friend's birthday brunch after church. The Address was rocking! Brunch in Houston's black community is always LIT; it's a big deal here. So, I got my menu and was fairly impressed with the offerings. Being in Houston, it included typical brunch dishes with a Creole twist. There were fried or grilled lobster tails, croissant french toast, shrimp & grits, catfish & grits, chicken & waffles. Of course, since it was my first brunch outing there, I'd asked our waitress what was her favorite meal on the menu. She recommended the shrimp & grits, but when I'd turned around to view other patrons' plates, I was sold on the chicken & waffles. Yes, I know this was a go-to brunch meal, but the meal's presentation was so Texas. A matter of fact, it was Texas: a waffle shaped like the state. When I got my plate, I had to take a picture. The waffle was drizzled with bourbon caramel sauce and powdered sugar and was topped with whipped cream, a strawberry, and a mint; there was a small container of syrup, as well. The waffle was very fluffy and light. For my side of meat, I had the choice between 5 chicken wings or 3 chicken tenders; I'd opted for the chicken wings, which were fried and seasoned very well. For my drink, I chose not to get a carafe or a glass of mimosa. Instead, I got my usual beverage: a Sprite.

Knowing me, I tasted the people's next to me food. The person across from me had catfish and grits with a small container of Cajun cream sauce (not pictured). I'm big on seasonings, and the catfish was seasoned just as much as I wanted; it was good and hot. Also, the Cajun cream sauce is out of this world!! I used some of it on my wings; it's just good on just about any type of meat. Another friend had the fried lobster tail; it was very tender and seasoned well! I’d definitely try it on my own next time.

CONCLUSION

All in all, The Address is a great place to brunch and party in the day. You can eat and dance your problems away on Sunday's "Brunch and Beats." The brunch is inexpensive to moderately priced. I paid $15 for the chicken & waffles. My grand total was $19, which included a tip and taxes; I was not charged for my Sprite. Even though The Address is a great spot to have fun and eat, there is a few things that keep me from giving it 5 stars. The parking is a problem during high volume times of the day (Sundays during brunch) and the service can be slow. All of these issues can affect your dining experience, but they can be corrected over time. Overall, I give The Address 4 stars (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) and will continue to support them.
